Dr. Karvounides is a licensed, clinical psychologist who is passionate about supporting adults and youth (12-18) in addressing life’s challenges. Over the past 16 years, she has worked with diverse patients who are coping with anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment to chronic illness-particularly chronic pain conditions, as well as difficulties faced in interpersonal relationships.

Her expertise comes through years of work at multiple academic medical centers as well as private practice settings. She has also worked with the humanitarian organization, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)/Doctors Without Borders supporting the health of citizens globally, including expatriates. She is a volunteer clinician in the Keck Human Rights Clinic at USC and is co-director of the teen advisory council through the The Friends of the Semel Institute at UCLA.

 

Her approach to your treatment involves a joint understanding of the changes you would like to see in your life. Dr. Karvounides utilizes evidence-based interventions including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), prolonged exposure (PE), exposure and response prevention (ERP), mindfulness based framework, internal family systems, and psychodynamic processes. 

 

Dr. Karvounides is a lifelong learner who prioritizes the importance of connection and community which is vital to human health and growth. Her primary intention is to support you, step by step, as you work to regain a sense of connection with yourself and others.
